Oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz hit a six-month high this week — and Americans are still paying $100-a-barrel prices for the privilege of having their economy held hostage by a Persian Gulf chokepoint.
Adm. Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, announced Saturday that the military has supported the transit of more than 1 billion barrels of crude through the strait over the past two months and coordinated protection for over 2,000 commercial vessel transits. The volume of oil, natural gas, and cargo moving through the waterway in the last two weeks is the highest it has been in six months.
