Rep. Jeff Crank is forcing a House vote to condemn socialism and the Democratic Socialists of America — putting every Democrat on the record while the establishment GOP sits on its hands and the DSA's own members expose their leadership as trust-fund radicals who wouldn't know a factory floor from a Park Slope barroom.
The Colorado Republican introduced a resolution Thursday that would put the full House on record opposing socialism in all its forms, specifically targeting the DSA's anti-American, anti-Constitutional agenda. Crank told Fox News Digital the vote is designed to force moderate Democrats to stop talking out of both sides of their mouths.
"I keep hearing people like Hakeem Jeffries and others in the Congress saying that they oppose the DSA. Let's see if they're willing to vote for a resolution that would oppose them," Crank said.
The stakes are real. A Brookings Institution analysis found 123 candidates endorsed by DSA chapters at the national, state, or local level had won primaries this cycle — most running for local or state office. The DSA is no longer a fringe campus club; it's a farm system capturing down-ballot races across the country, with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's victory as its flagship success.
Crank didn't mince words about what the DSA represents. He called the movement "anti-American" and "anti-Constitution," hostile to free speech, and antisemitic in its advocacy against Israel — particularly after October 7. "I would almost say the DSA in some ways is the marriage between socialism, the traditional socialism of Bernie Sanders, and the anti-Semitism of this sort of radical Arab movement," Crank said. "If that's a marriage, their child is violence."
He pointed to the DSA's own national program, which calls for abolishing the Senate, replacing the Supreme Court with a judiciary "subordinate to Congress," and extending voting rights to noncitizens and incarcerated felons. Crank's resolution also backs the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register in federal elections.
Meanwhile, the DSA's internal rot is on full display. The New York Post reported that NYC DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo — a millionaire's son who lied about being a working electrician and was booted from the union for failing to pay dues — is demanding the volunteer position pay $95,000 a year. He lives rent-free in a $1.5 million row house.
Gordillo and co-chair Grace Mausser asked the chapter to make their roles salaried, claiming responsibilities had exploded since the group endorsed Mamdani. About three dozen members debated the proposal at a bar in Park Slope. The verdict was brutal.
"Gustavo is not working class. Grace is not working class. Most of our co-chairs and most people in the DSA have laptop jobs and are upper middle class," a 10-year member said.
Mausser, who works as a senior policy manager at nonprofit B Lab, admitted the co-chairs would answer to nobody. "I've gotten a lot of questions about who is supervising the co-chairs. I mean, the answer is no one," she said, laughing. The combined $228,000 in salary and benefits for the pair would consume more than 20 percent of the chapter's $1 million annual budget.
Crank noted the bitter irony of socialist agitators who fled failing systems now pushing to impose those same policies here. "They're people who came here from a different country and now they come here and want to impose the socialism that they left, that didn't work," he said.
The open question: Will GOP leadership bring Crank's resolution to the floor, or let it die while they fund the very government programs that feed the socialist expansion? A vote that forces Democrats to own or disown the DSA is a vote the permanent Republican class has never had the stomach to demand.
