An illegal alien protected by New York's sanctuary laws allegedly kidnapped and stabbed a 15-year-old American girl in Baltimore — and every politician who voted to shield him from deportation owns a piece of what happened next.
Abubakarr Barrie, a 23-year-old unlicensed cab driver from Sierra Leone, entered the United States illegally in 2023. Border Patrol arrested him; the Biden administration released him into the country anyway. In July, the NYPD busted him for possession of a forged instrument. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer — a request to hold him for deportation proceedings. New York's sanctuary regime refused to honor it. Barrie walked free. Three months later, a teenager is fighting to recover from multiple stab wounds and a collapsed lung.
According to charging documents cited by both Breitbart and the New York Post, the girl asked Barrie for a ride on the night of October 22. When she realized he was driving the wrong direction and questioned him, he allegedly put her in a headlock while she was strapped into her seatbelt. He then drove to a Baltimore basement apartment he was renting, pushed her down a set of steps, and told her to put her phone down and not scream.
Then the stabbing started. She told police Barrie stabbed her "all over her body." She scratched and clawed at him, found a fire extinguisher, and hit him with it. Surveillance footage shows her bursting out the door with no clothes or shoes roughly 43 minutes after she arrived. The homeowner who rented the basement to Barrie told Fox45: "I just see her bolt, like she just opens the door and runs." Police found her about a mile away.
Breitbart notes one discrepancy: the surveillance video appears to show the girl following Barrie into the apartment voluntarily, which doesn't match her account of being forced from the car. But she was stabbed. She did flee. She identified Barrie as her attacker. He was arrested October 24 and charged with attempted first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin laid the blame exactly where it belongs: "This tragedy would never have happened were it not for the multiple failures of sanctuary policies. First, Biden's open borders let this monster into our country; then, sanctuary politicians in New York refused to hand him over to ICE and released him after a previous arrest three months before this horrific crime."
The Post and Breitbart both reported Mullin's statement in full. What neither outlet did — and what the establishment press never does — is name the specific New York City Council members and mayors who built the sanctuary apparatus that freed Barrie in July. New York's sanctuary laws were expanded under Mayor Bill de Blasio and upheld by Mayor Eric Adams. The City Council voted repeatedly to block ICE cooperation. Those are the votes that put Barrie back on the street. Those are the names that belong in this story.
DHS is now urging Baltimore County authorities to honor the new ICE detainer on Barrie. The question that remains is how many more Americans will be sacrificed before the politicians who write these laws are forced to answer for them.
