An illegal alien from Venezuela crossed the southern border, was arrested by Border Patrol, and was released into the country. He then acquired three firearms — including an AR-15-style rifle — drove a stolen truck to within blocks of the White House, and told Secret Service officers he was there to assassinate the President. Every link in that chain was a policy choice, not a system failure.

This is the logical destination of catch-and-release immigration enforcement. Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, 26, entered the U.S. illegally through Texas in March 2024. Border Patrol arrested him. Then they let him go. DHS confirmed the sequence but, as NBC News reported, "did not provide further details about his case." The public is supposed to accept that answer.

On Thursday night, Secret Service officers spotted Chrinos asleep in a parked blue Ford F-150 on Constitution Avenue near the Ellipse. According to a court affidavit cited by NBC News, officers initially approached for a welfare check. Chrinos used Google Translate to communicate, telling an officer he had weapons he wanted to turn over to the government and that he had taken a gun from people who tried to kill him. He also told officers he heard voices in his head telling him to come to Washington and kill President Trump.

A search of the vehicle — which had been reported stolen — turned up an AR-15-style rifle, a Mac 10 handgun, a Glock 43X pistol, and dozens of rounds of ammunition. Chrinos told investigators he bought the weapons a month ago and had been living in the vehicle.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated the obvious: "This illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone. On top of threatening President Trump, he is an illegal alien from Venezuela who had no business being in our country in the first place."

The framing split across outlets tells its own story. CBS News described Chrinos as an "undocumented immigrant." The Guardian called him "an immigrant from Venezuela who is in the country illegally." CNN buried the illegal entry deep in its report and dedicated more words to the Secret Service's concerns about mental health trends near the White House. The Gateway Pundit identified the border release as a direct consequence of Biden-era policy. Only Gateway Pundit named the administration responsible for the catch-and-release decision that put an armed foreign national on a road to the capital.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran praised his officers' deescalation but acknowledged what matters: "We are alarmed by the increase in threat cases that continue to arise." Chrinos faces a stack of charges — unlawful transportation of a firearm, carrying unregistered firearms and ammunition, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of dangerous weapons, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft, and receiving stolen property. He is in U.S. Marshals custody and expected in federal court Monday.

An illegal alien, caught at the border and released, armed with three guns in a stolen truck on the President's doorstep. The officers who stopped him did their jobs. The policymakers who put him there haven't been asked to answer for theirs.
