Democrats' once-dominant midterm advantage has nearly evaporated, with their generic ballot lead shrinking to just three points — a fraction of what carried their 2018 blue wave and far short of what the establishment press has been promising working Americans will deliver them the House.

A Washington Post-Ipsos poll of 2,092 registered voters conducted July 8-13 found Democrats leading 48% to 45% on the question of which party should control the House. That's down from a five-point edge in May, when Democrats led 49% to 44% in the same survey series. For perspective, Democrats carried a roughly 10-point lead into the 2018 midterms — the year they flipped 40 House seats. The current RealClearPolitics aggregate puts the Democratic edge at just 4.7 points.
