Lafayette Parish School Board voted 6-2 to pull $14 million from the district's rainy day fund to kick off construction on the Ovey Comeaux Workforce Academy — spending reserves on a building while the district can't even produce a clean financial audit.
The money comes from the Economic Stabilization Fund and must be restored by June 30 of next year, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. The plan to replace it: a future bond issuance that already failed once this year when the district withdrew its $46 million bond application from the State Bond Commission, citing high borrowing costs. That bond may not have been approved anyway — SBC staff flagged concerns about a 2025 audit that issued a rare
