Eighty-nine New Jersey restaurant workers will lose their jobs in January after True Food Kitchen filed for bankruptcy and shuttered both of its locations in the state — one more Main Street casualty in an economy Wall Street keeps calling strong.
The chain's operator, FRC Balance LLC, filed for Chapter 11 protection on October 4 in federal bankruptcy court in Texas and immediately closed 12 of its 46 restaurants nationwide, according to NJ.com. The Hackensack and Edison locations — both less than five years old — are gone. The remaining 34 restaurants across 14 states stay open while the company seeks a court-supervised sale. The New Jersey layoffs are scheduled for January 3, 2027, per a notice filed with the state Department of Labor.
