Sen. Ed Markey is using your tax dollars to run a hiring operation that explicitly tells white, straight Americans they need not apply. The Massachusetts Democrat posted on X Tuesday that he's hiring Spring 2027 interns for his Boston office and encouraged "BIPOC, LGBTQ+, working class, veterans, and other underrepresented candidates" to apply — a naked preference by race and sexual orientation in a taxpayer-funded workplace.
This isn't a one-off. Markey posted the same targeted solicitation in a July 2025 job listing, according to the Daily Caller. The pattern is clear: a sitting U.S. senator is repeatedly using public office resources to signal that certain racial and sexual categories get preferential treatment for publicly funded positions.
The hypocrisy is built right into the posting. According to Breitbart, Markey's official internship listing states his office "is an equal employment opportunity employer in accordance with the requirements of Senate Rules and Regulations and applicable federal laws." So which is it? Equal opportunity, or encouraged applicants sorted by skin color and sexuality? You can't have both.
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) put the question directly: "Are white men allowed to apply, Senator?" Christopher Rufo tagged the Office of Civil Rights, calling it "crazy that a United States Senator can openly violate civil rights law on Twitter." Conservative journalist Nick Sortor cut to the chase: "Wouldn't it have been easier just to say 'straight White men need not apply'?"
Neither the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights nor the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission responded to requests for comment on whether Markey's post runs afoul of discrimination law, according to the Daily Caller. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon's office declined to comment. Markey's office also declined to respond. The silence from every enforcement body tasked with protecting American workers from racial discrimination tells you everything about who the system is built to protect — and it isn't you.
The Supreme Court ruled in June 2023 that racial preferences in admissions violate the Constitution. President Trump signed an executive order his first day back in office eliminating "radical" and "wasteful" DEI preferencing in the federal government. Private firms like Goldman Sachs have already started rolling back their anti-white, anti-male policies. Markey didn't get the memo — or he doesn't care.
Blake Neff, co-host of The Charlie Kirk Show, named the institution-level reality: "The Democratic Party as an institution is premised on despising ordinary young white men." Parker Thayer of the Capital Research Center noted that Dhillon's office is "probably popping the champagne over this tweet already" — calling it a "civil rights grenade." Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton kept it plain: "Left-wing senator makes it clear who he will not hire."
An ordinary American's tax dollars fund Markey's office, his staff, and these internships. When a senator openly sorts applicants by race and sexuality for jobs you pay for, the question isn't whether it's legal — it's who in Washington has the nerve to enforce the law against one of their own.
