Police were dispatched to a 3-year-old's soccer game in Winter Park, Florida, because adults couldn't settle a dispute without calling law enforcement — and body camera footage shows just how absurd it gets when armed officers are sent to mediate a preschool spat.
The viral narrative was simple and infuriating: Nevada Pierre, a 3-year-old described as a soccer prodigy, was supposedly removed from a game because he was too talented. His parents posted clips of the boy weaving between players and scoring goals, writing on Instagram that Nevada was "escorted out for being the best 3 year old in the world today." The internet erupted. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump weighed in: "If this child was punished for excelling, what message does that send to every young athlete?" Some on social media speculated the incident was racially motivated, as Nevada is Black and several opponents were white.
Then the Winter Park Police Department released the body cam footage.
The video shows the i9 Sports league director, identified by Breitbart as Thomas Hayes, telling officers the child is talented — "he's great, really good" — but that the problem was the parents. Hayes said Nevada was pushing other players, and when he told the family to stop, "they don't like that, they tell me I'm ignorant, I'm this, I'm that." He said the parents created a "big scene, arguing with the other parents" and told police: "I just want them out, immediately."
When officers reached Nevada's mother, Martasia Griffin, she insisted her son was being targeted for his talent. "I'm a little baffled because I signed my kid up for soccer," she told them. "So they are literally kicking him out of this place because he's good at soccer." An officer relayed what the league director actually said: "He specifically mentioned that your son is very good but he doesn't like how the parents become aggressive when they try to do different coaching."
Police confirmed no one was arrested, trespassed, or forced to leave. The department called it "a civil matter between those parties and not criminal." The family was already leaving when officers arrived. The Los Angeles Times noted that the league official who called police is also Black — undercutting the racial framing that spread online.
None of this stopped the grift. Griffin launched a GoFundMe claiming her son "was removed from the game because of concerns about his skill level, and the situation escalated to the point that law enforcement was called." As of Tuesday, per Breitbart, the page had raised over $35,000.
The real story here isn't just a viral claim that collapsed under evidence. It's that a youth sports league — running games at a public park for preschoolers — decided the appropriate response to arguing parents was to dial 911. In a country where actual violent crime goes unsolved, officers are being dispatched to toddler soccer fields to referee adult feelings. That's the American police state at its most petty and wasteful — and every party in this mess helped build it.
