Two illegal aliens from the Dominican Republic are wanted for stabbing and robbing an off-duty NYPD detective in New York City last Friday — and both were caught at the Arizona border and released into the interior under the Biden administration, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The suspects, 24-year-old Sneider Mejia Bautista and 25-year-old Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo, remain at large. Both carry lengthy criminal records. An NYPD detective is a victim, and two men with seven prior arrests between them this year alone walked the streets because Washington let them in and New York City made sure they stayed.

Mejia Bautista crossed the border near San Luis, Arizona, in December 2022 with his family. All of them were released. The family has had deportation orders since May. NYPD arrested him twice this year — once in January for criminal possession of stolen property, and again in October for criminal possession of a weapon. The day after that weapons arrest, ICE filed a detainer asking the city to hold him for federal pickup. New York's sanctuary rules meant the detainer was ignored. He walked.

Jean Caraballo crossed the same Arizona border in February 2023 and was released with a future court date. Since then, he has been arrested five separate times in the city: reckless driving and fleeing police, possession of burglar's tools, drug possession, possession of a loaded firearm, and criminal menacing with a weapon. ICE never filed a single detainer on him — because city officials cut him loose so fast each time that federal agents did not even know about the arrests until he was already gone.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the two were released by the Biden administration and then released again by local officials who would not cooperate with ICE. "Before you put them back on the streets, let us deport them," Mullin said last month.

This attack did not happen in a vacuum. Less than three months ago, another Biden-released Dominican national — caught at the same Arizona border — shot an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in the face during a robbery in a Manhattan park. It also follows Operation Rotten Apple, the 30-day ICE sweep that netted more than 2,100 arrests across New York after the state ended cooperation agreements with federal immigration agents.

Meanwhile, the current border picture tells a different story about what enforcement actually looks like when the administration wants it. CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott told Breitbart News that the agency has released "zero" migrants at the border during the last year, and agents are now arresting fewer than 200 migrants each day. "That sent a message worldwide that there's no return on your investment," Scott said. He noted that cartels need mass migration to overwhelm law enforcement at the border so they can move the higher-threat commodities — narcotics, criminals, potential terrorists — through the clutter. "Now they don't have it."

But the damage from the Biden years is already done and walking American streets. At least eight million migrants were released into the country under the previous administration. The two men wanted for stabbing a New York detective are products of that pipeline: caught at the border, released by federal authorities, arrested repeatedly by local police, and shielded from deportation by sanctuary rules that put ideology above public safety.

Both suspects remain at large.
