The stakes are straightforward: a designated foreign terrorist organization is attempting to swing a U.S. presidential election, and the American media is choosing to look the other way because the target is a president they despise.

According to Fox News, the letter was presented by IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi and addressed directly to the American people. It blames Trump and U.S. support for Israel for the ongoing conflict, accuses the president of lying about Iran's nuclear program, and insists the American economy is on the verge of collapse. "The US economy is on the precipice of collapse, and yet he keeps on telling Americans that the economy is booming and the prices will soon start coming down," the letter states.

This is not back-channel influence peddling or a social media troll farm buying Facebook ads. This is a branch of the Iranian military — an organization the U.S. government formally designates as a terrorist entity — publishing an open appeal to American voters ahead of an election. Where is the wall-to-wall cable news coverage? Where are the congressional hearings? Where is the breathless concern about democracy under assault?

The silence tells you everything. Foreign interference is only a crisis when it can be weaponized against the right targets.

Meanwhile, the regime issuing these lectures is cracking down on its own people. Fox News reports that Iranian security forces have flooded Tehran and other cities with motorcycle patrols, checkpoints, and street-level deployments. Sources inside Iran confirmed that IRGC, Basij, and law enforcement personnel are stopping pedestrians, searching individuals, and examining mobile phones for material authorities deem "anti-regime." University students have returned to the streets protesting compulsory hijab rules, rising education costs, and political repression. The National Council of Resistance of Iran claims authorities ordered a "100%" state of readiness and deployed 51,000 personnel across Greater Tehran alone.

Iran's economy, for its part, is the one actually on the precipice: the rial fell Tuesday to a record low of more than 2.5 million to the dollar, according to Fox News.

The U.S. military mission in Iraq is also set to end Wednesday, closing a two-decade operation — even as the conflict with Iran that began earlier this year continues. The withdrawal agreement was struck under a different administration and before the U.S. and Iran entered direct conflict.
