The White House will host cryptocurrency and prediction market executives next Wednesday, throwing the administration's weight behind decentralized finance just as Wall Street's allies in the regulatory state scramble to keep their grip on the American wallet.
For working Americans, the stake is straightforward: crypto is an exit ramp from a financial system where the Federal Reserve and big banks control money creation, track every transaction, and quietly confiscate wealth through inflation. The bureaucratic class has spent years trying to seal that exit. The Trump administration is now trying to pry it back open.
According to POLITICO, which broke the gathering citing three people granted anonymity, the meeting will include officials from the cryptocurrency and prediction market industries and may also feature executives from traditional finance. Details remain in flux, and it is unclear whether President Trump will attend. The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
The summit is scheduled one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission convenes its new Innovation Advisory Committee — a panel of executives from crypto, gambling, finance, and prediction market companies. Bitcoin Magazine reported the committee will feature voices from both crypto and traditional finance, a marked shift from the prior administration's strategy of suing first and asking questions never.
POLITICO framed the meeting around crypto and prediction markets being "major flashpoints in Washington" — Beltway parlance for industries that threaten incumbents. Bitcoin Magazine noted that regulators have already scrapped high-profile lawsuits against crypto companies and adopted a more cooperative posture since Trump took office. Trump signed a March 2025 executive order directing the creation of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, making good on a campaign promise to position America as the crypto capital of the world.
The industry's top legislative priority, the Clarity Act, remains stalled. The sweeping market structure bill was delayed before the August recess and now faces a Senate vote in September. The bill passed the House last year and includes an ethics provision banning government officials from promoting or profiting from crypto — a reform aimed at the revolving door between regulators and the industries they police.
While the White House focuses on financial sovereignty, a foreign adversary is literally moving in next door. A Daily Caller investigation revealed that a senior Chinese Communist Party intelligence official purchased a historic building just 650 feet from the White House grounds. Philip Qiu — who has held multiple positions in Chinese intelligence and state security, including as a detective in Shanghai's Criminal Investigation Team and receiving special forces training — bought the Securities Building for $8.4 million on July 21 through the Philip Qiu and Family Foundation.
"The CCP is like a kind, but firm parent," Qiu said in 2021, per a translation of a Chinese government announcement. "It has guided our people out of hardship, led China's sons and daughters to build a new country and is steering us toward great national rejuvenation."
Former CIA operations officer Bryan Dean Wright told the Daily Caller the property enables intelligence collection, listening posts, and worse. "This kind of property is where the next 9/11 will come from," Wright said.
An administration serious about freeing American finance from institutional monopolies will also need to secure its own front porch from a foreign intelligence service that just bought the building across the street.
