Protesters at President Trump's San Antonio rally Wednesday shouted down an angel mom as she recounted how two criminal illegal immigrants murdered her Border Patrol agent son — a moment that lays bare whose lives the open-borders crowd actually values.

Marie Vega took the stage to tell the story of her son, Javier "Harvey" Vega Jr., who was killed defending his family during an armed robbery. "Everything was going perfect until two career criminal illegal aliens decided to ambush us in an attempt to steal two four-wheel-drive trucks," Vega said. "Without warning, they jumped out of the stolen vehicle they were driving and … they shot at us, killing my Harvey as he so desperately tried to protect us." Her husband was shot in the back. Her grandsons were fired on. Vega herself picked up her son's AR-15 and returned fire.

Just as Vega charged that Democrats "want to strip" Americans of their Second Amendment rights, commotion broke out in the crowd, forcing her to pause for roughly a minute. The New York Post reported the disruption; The Guardian and NBC News both buried it — if they mentioned it at all — in favor of framing the evening as a rally "rocked by repeated protests." The Guardian's headline never once mentioned the angel mom. NBC led with Trump's Iran remarks.

About a dozen demonstrators disrupted the rally within its first 45 minutes, according to the Post. Trump repeatedly fired back, mocking their appearance and declaring: "They're paid protesters. They're paid by enemies of our nation." The Guardian noted Trump made the claim "without evidence." At least one protester was physically grabbed by a rally attendee wearing a MAGA hat as he tried to leave, an incident captured on video per NBC News.

The rally was billed to boost Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, whom Trump called "probably the greatest attorney general in the history of the state of Texas" and "the only thing standing between you and the migrant conquest, the invasion you had two years ago." A New York Times/Siena College poll shows Paxton trailing Democrat James Talarico 45% to 51% among likely voters — a stunning deficit in a state that hasn't sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1988. Trump's approval rating in Texas has cratered; a Reuters/Ipsos poll put it at 32%.

Trump also spent time cleaning up controversial remarks about Iran potentially striking Los Angeles or San Diego, adding Wednesday: "We protect our cities. We protect our country. We're not letting that happen." California Democrats, including Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, condemned the earlier comments, with Bass suggesting Congress investigate.

But the real story of the night wasn't Trump's rhetorical wanderings or the horse-race polling. It was a grieving mother — a woman who watched her son die and picked up his rifle to save her family — being shouted down by people who don't think American lives lost to open borders are worth a minute of silence. The establishment press made sure you'd have a hard time finding that out.
