Former President Joe Biden was left wandering a stage, shouting for his granddaughter into a live microphone, while Barack Obama and Jill Biden walked off without him — and the same press corps that spent years dismissing concerns about his mental fitness is once again looking the other way. The stake for ordinary Americans is plain: the people who told you Biden was sharp as a tack are the same people who want you to trust them on everything else.
Video from Thursday's dedication ceremony at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago shows Obama and Jill Biden exiting the stage as Biden drifted back toward the podium, pulled down his sunglasses, and asked: "Where's my granddaughter?" A person familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that Biden was searching for his granddaughter, who was sitting in the audience.
The Daily Caller framed it as an "awkward moment" and noted Jill Biden's apparent exit without her husband, calling it a bad look for someone whose new memoir supposedly defends his legacy. The Daily Wire placed the incident in the broader pattern of Biden's cognitive stumbles, citing its own analysis of official White House transcripts showing Biden's speaking errors doubled in the year before his June 2024 debate against Donald Trump. Fox News offered the most context, including Hillary Clinton's remark at New York's 92nd Street Y that Biden's re-election bid was a "terrible mistake" and Jill Biden's own admission that she feared her husband was suffering a stroke after that debate.
What none of the outlets dwelled on is the cover-up itself. The White House staff, the Democratic Party apparatus, and the establishment press all operated in concert to conceal the condition of the man running the country. The Daily Wire's transcript analysis found that White House stenographers were silently correcting Biden's errors — misstated numbers, mixed-up dates, confused names — at more than double the rate in the months before the debate that finally forced the issue into the open. This wasn't a secret to anyone in the building. It was a secret kept from you.
Special Counsel Robert Hur described Biden as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" — and the press treated that characterization as the scandal rather than the condition it described. Biden is now fighting the Justice Department to block release of the audio recordings from those interviews. The 83-year-old is also battling Stage 4 prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones.
The question isn't whether Biden is in decline. The question is how long the people who swore he wasn't intend to keep pretending — and what else they're willing to hide from the public that pays their salaries.
