A woman walked into a Maryland hospital with a gunshot wound after an illegal car meetup in Prince George's County turned violent overnight — and no suspect is in custody, no motive has been released, and no one in authority seems willing to call it what it is: civil order collapsing in real time.
Prince George's County Police say officers were called to the University of Maryland Capital Medical Center around 3:51 a.m. on Aug. 2 after the woman arrived as a walk-in shooting victim. Investigators traced the shooting to an illegal car meetup in the 2300 block of Beaver Road, according to WJLA. That's where the facts end and the silence begins. Police have released no information on the woman's condition, what led to the shooting, or whether any suspect has been identified. No one has been arrested.
This isn't an isolated episode. The same night, 600 miles away in Chicago's Austin neighborhood, a 36-year-old woman was shot in the back during a carjacking — a man approached as she got out of her vehicle, fired, demanded access, and fled, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. She survived, taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. Area Four detectives are investigating. No arrest reported there, either.
