Three Americans are dead and at least 18 wounded after two mass shootings ripped through neighborhood gatherings in Trenton, New Jersey, and Chicago's Washington Park over the weekend — and the same establishment press that never stops lecturing the country about gun violence can barely summon the energy to cover it.
In Trenton, gunfire erupted around 12:25 a.m. Sunday at a neighborhood cookout on the 100 block of Locust Street. According to the New York Post, the shooting started after an argument between a half-dozen people at the street gathering, which had run from Saturday afternoon deep into the night. Officers arrived to find 11 people shot. Two were killed. Nine others were wounded and rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where family members gathered and police towed a damaged vehicle from the emergency area, NBC Philadelphia reported. Nearly 40 evidence markers dotted the street by morning. No arrests have been made.
In Chicago, it was the same story with different details. Police were attempting to disperse a large crowd on the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday when someone opened fire into the crowd, NBC 5 Chicago reported. Ten people were hit. A 35-year-old man shot multiple times was pronounced dead at the scene. Six victims were listed in good condition; three others, including a 37-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman, remain in unknown condition. No suspects are in custody. Area One detectives are investigating — which, in Chicago, often means the case goes cold.
