A two-week-old baby girl was found dead in the sorting area of a New York trash facility Wednesday, and police are asking her mother to come forward — but won't call her a suspect or say a crime was committed.
This is where decades of cheapening human life gets you. New York has a Safe Haven Law that would have allowed this child to be legally surrendered at any hospital, fire station, or police station within 30 days of birth. Someone chose the garbage instead. The same political class that champions abortion-on-demand through the moment of birth will call this a tragedy and refuse to name the logic that produced it.
Workers at the Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority facility in Utica discovered the deceased infant in the recycling sorting area late Wednesday morning, according to Breitbart. Operations were immediately halted and first responders called.
At a press conference Thursday, Utica Police Chief Mark Williams made a direct plea: "I would make a plea to the birth mother of this child, please come forward. She may have a story to tell, but we need to know it. This baby girl deserves proper burial and an identity."
Captain Mike Curley spoke to the emotional toll on investigators: "Most of us have young children. Most of us have seen the birth of a child and seen exactly how that can be... When you're exposed to a situation like this that takes time before you can move on, there's an exposure that our officers have to deal with." WEAU reported that officers involved in the investigation are being offered counseling.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting because the regional facility services multiple counties, expanding the scope of the probe. The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the circumstances of death.
WEAU noted that the mother is not being called a suspect and police are not saying a crime has been committed. A dead infant in a trash facility, and no crime alleged — that framing alone tells you where the baseline now sits.
New York's Safe Haven Law permits legal surrender of infants up to 30 days old at designated locations. This child was approximately two weeks old. She was well within the window. The system had a place for her.

The medical examiner will establish how this baby girl died. No authority will explain how a culture that spent decades insisting some lives are disposable can act surprised when a child ends up in the trash.
