ICE just arrested 1,328 illegal aliens in the shadow of the Capitol — including MS-13 members, rapists, and a wanted murderer — proving enforcement works the moment politicians stop standing in the way.
Over 14 days starting August 1, "Operation Safe Community – Washington, D.C." swept through the District, Virginia, and Maryland. Of the 1,328 arrested, nearly 400 had criminal convictions or pending charges. The crimes: rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, DUI, robbery, attempted murder. Members of MS-13, 18th Street Gang, and Tren de Aragua were among those taken into custody, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Breitbart reported the specific cases the establishment press won't name. A Salvadoran national, Eygner Wilfredo Huezo-Moran, was arrested on a murder warrant out of Richmond, Virginia. Actionel Pierre, a Haitian national, was picked up in Wicomico County, Maryland, with a history including attempted murder and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. Angel Gabriel Ortiz-Hernandez, a Guatemalan national, was arrested in Alexandria, Virginia, on charges of raping a mentally incapacitated victim and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of an incapacitated victim. German Mejia-Baires and Mauricio Antonio Barrera-Navidad, both MS-13 members from El Salvador, were arrested in Manassas and Hyattsville, respectively.
These are the people sanctuary politicians chose to shield.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin made the stakes plain: "While sanctuary politicians in Virginia and Maryland keep putting the needs of illegal aliens over the safety of the American people, the Trump Administration will always put American citizens first." ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Acting Assistant Director Patricia Hyde added that officers "are the best in the world at finding people who do not want to be located."
Fox News framed the operation as having been "quietly" conducted, emphasizing its surprise element. Baltimore News covered the announcement straight. Breitbart highlighted the sanctuary-state designation for both Maryland and Virginia and listed the individual criminal aliens by name, country of origin, and charge — the detail level that lets readers judge for themselves who, exactly, has been walking their streets.
What none of the outlets disputes: this operation delivered results in jurisdictions where local officials have actively obstructed federal immigration enforcement. Fairfax County, Virginia — long a flashpoint — was included in the sweep. DHS noted that ICE officers made these arrests "despite the sanctuary policies of many of the counties throughout Virginia and Maryland."
The question isn't whether ICE can do the job. It just did. The question is why it took this long, and how many Americans were harmed in the interval, because Virginia and Maryland politicians decided foreign nationals deserved more protection than their own constituents.
