A lifelong Democrat stood before Congress and said she is ashamed of her own party after an illegal immigrant trucker — licensed by the state of California — killed her son, his newlywed wife, and their cat on an American highway.
Elizabeth Carter testified that her son, William Micah Carter, and his wife, Jennifer Lower, were driving home from their wedding reception in Oregon in late November when their vehicle slammed into a jackknifed big rig operated by Rajinder Kumar, an illegal immigrant. They had been married 16 days. "They lost the Russian roulette game our government is forcing them to play," Carter said.
The stake is straightforward: American families are dying because federal and state governments hand commercial driver's licenses to foreign nationals who have no legal right to be in the country, then act surprised when people end up dead.
Pressed by Rep. Brad Knott, R-N.C., on whether mass deportation is worth it to protect even one American family, Carter answered: "Absolutely." Knott pointed across the hearing room: "Not one of them will say, if you're here illegal, get out."
Fox News covered the testimony. The rest of the establishment press has treated Carter's story like it never happened. No primetime segment. No magazine profile. No cable panel parsing her grief. A Democrat mother saying her party failed her son doesn't fit the narrative, so it gets buried.
The policy failure runs deep. California issued Kumar a commercial driver's license — a privilege that puts someone behind 80,000 pounds of machinery on public roads. Fox News reported that licensed illegal immigrant drivers have become an "increasingly significant concern" after a string of deadly crashes. Last week, ICE launched a new tipline for Americans to report suspected CDL fraud. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated plainly: "Too many American lives have been lost or permanently changed because illegal aliens who have no business being on our roads have been granted CDLs."
The problem isn't confined to highways. WJLA reported that ICE just deported Jose Alberto Menjivar-Rivera from Northern Virginia — an illegal immigrant wanted in Honduras for aggravated robbery whose American rap sheet includes domestic assault, felony strangling, grand larceny, and drug charges. He was arrested in Herndon, released into the country, and accumulated that record before anyone in authority showed him the door. His removal is part of what ICE describes as a broader sweep of criminal illegal immigrants in the region.
Carter put the math in plain terms during her testimony: "We allowed 10 million people in under Biden. How is there a different suggestion as to how to process them, other than the same way they came into the country en masse, leaving?"
Two newlyweds dead on a dark road. A foreign national with a state-issued commercial license behind the wheel of the rig that killed them. A mother from the opposing party begging her own side to enforce the law. The only question left is how many more families have to lose that roulette game before Washington stops pretending the wheel isn't rigged.
