Democrats positioning themselves for a 2028 presidential run are actively coaching illegal aliens on how to dodge federal immigration enforcement — and the people paying the price are the Americans who have to live with the consequences.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and California Gov. Gavin Newsom by name this week, accusing both of helping illegal immigrants "defy" ICE through webinars, social media campaigns, and state-funded legal guides. The timing is no accident: DHS officers are currently facing a more than 1,300 percent increase in vehicle attacks, according to Mullin, who called the surge in violence a direct result of the rhetoric and resources coming from sanctuary politicians.
Ocasio-Cortez's office hosted a "Know Your Rights With ICE" webinar last year, broadcast from the congresswoman's Facebook page, advising migrant viewers how to handle ICE search requests at their homes and workplaces. AOC did not appear on the webinar herself but amplified the effort aggressively on Instagram, posting instructional graphics in English and Spanish and urging followers to share them widely.
"Our strategic advantage in this moment is our strength in numbers," Ocasio-Cortez wrote. "In nearly every way, we outnumber those who want to abuse their power and keep people in fear. The truth is, they cannot come after us all." She encouraged supporters to print the posters and "tape them up in your workplace or keep them by your door."
Newsom, for his part, has gone even further — using the power of the California statehouse. Since Trump's return to office, the governor has signed a $50 million package funding immigrant legal defense and lawsuits against the administration, legislation attempting to ban ICE agents from wearing masks during operations, and new restrictions on immigration enforcement at schools and public hospitals. His office also published its own "Know Your Rights" factsheet instructing immigrants how to recognize ICE agents and respond to arrests. Fox News noted that the factsheet urged people not to assault or obstruct federal agents — a caveat that rings hollow when the rest of the document is a how-to guide for evasion.
The backdrop: President Trump ordered ICE to resume vehicle stops after a one-day pause prompted by two officer-involved shootings in Maine and Texas. Mullin emphasized that the agency's top goal is keeping officers safe and getting criminals off the streets.
Here is the open question: Two of the Democratic Party's most visible figures — both widely rumored to be eyeing the White House — are spending their time and constituents' money helping people who broke into this country stay here in defiance of federal law. At what point does coaching evasion of federal enforcement stop being politics and start being something far more serious?
