According to Public Health England figures, the number of excess winter deaths this year is still a tenth of the 50,000 people who died during the winter of 2017-2018. How many people will die because of the destruction of businesses, the loss of jobs and shrinking the economy by 15%? The impact of the 2008 financial crisis is still being felt twelve years on and the measures implemented to deal with the coronavirus have had a bigger impact.
