I know, you may think I am deluded. How could life in an Embassy with a cat and a skateboard ever amount to torture? That’s exactly what I thought, too, when Assange first appealed to my office for…

The smears of Assange cannot hold up to any level of serious scrutiny.

A Swedish judge has rejected the detention of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in absentia, blocking prosecution efforts to extradite him to Sweden to face trial over sexual assault allegations. Assange has vehemently denied these allegations.

Quote: "UK officials have no justification, and the UK government is in violation of international law and multiple UN rulings calling for Mr Assange’s immediate release. The UK government is culpable in the prolonged torture and mistreatment of Mr Assange. Indeed, Mr Assange’s life is threatened, both on account of his circumstances in prison as well as repeated public threats on his life made by various government officials in the US, UK, and elsewhere. This is truly a disaster for human rights and international law”.

100% true.

Nina Cross | Testing the reason behind Judge Taylor's sentencing of Assange, just one layer of law applied to Assange, shows UN rapporteur Nils Melzer is justified in denouncing the UK for Assange's disproportionate treatment

Good overview of the persecution of Assange, which pulls back the veneer of US, UK, Sweden, and Ecuador supposedly following legal processes (they're not).

BBC interviews Dr. Nils Melzer on its Newsday program. Dr. Melzer calls for independent psychiatrist to care for Assange, notes that the UK intends to respond "point by point" to his letter, and that he's never in all his experience in dealing with atrocities seen so-called "democratic" countries go after an individual like the UK, US, Sweden, and Ecuador have gone after Assange.

Oh, and notes that the UK, Sweden, Ecuador, and the US are all extremely guilty of inflicting psychological torture on Assange.

Kiriakou writes: Federal authorities in the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) last week issued a superceding indictment and charged WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange with 17 counts of espionage. Along with a charge of conspiring to gain access to a government computer, he faces 175 years in prison. Julian's current plight is well-known.

Amnesty International is a tool of the US State Department, which itself is wholly and entirely a tool of the CIA. They only declare someone to be a "prisoner of conscience" when it advances the goals of the military industrial complex.

Julian Assange is proof. John Kiriakou is proof. Chelsea Manning is proof. Jeffrey Sterling is proof.

As a physician myself, I echo this call for the UK to guarantee Julian Assange access to medical care.

Also, I condemn the Ecuador government's actions in recording Julian's physician-patient encounters in the Ecuadorian Embassy. Such actions are a horribly grotesque, illegal, unconscionable, violation of physician-patient confidentiality.
