(2) Most importantly, the story of Galileo is horribly distorted, because during Galileo's lifetime, the evidence supported the geocentric theory of contemporary Tycho Brahe. The models proposed by Brahe and Copernicus agreed on many observed phenomena, but there was one that they differed on: stellar parallax. Brahe's model required no stellar parallax, while the Copernican model required it. During the lifetimes of Galileo, Brahe, and Copernicus, no stellar parallax was observed, so Brahe had the balance of evidence. It would take until the 1800s for stellar parallax to be observed.
