LEWISTON (WGME) -- The Lewiston Police Department said they arrested five men as part of an ongoing effort to crack down on sex related offenses and sex trafficking in the city. Lewiston police conducted the undercover operation targeting “johns” on Monday. Five adult men were arrested and charged as a result of this operation. Police said Haji Haji, 60, Laurier Ducharme, 59, Craig Melanson, 60, West Saidi, 34, and Rickey Joler, 62, were all charged with engaging a prostitute.

KENNEBUNK (WGME) -- Maine State Police say they arrested two men from New York and one Mainer for drug trafficking after a traffic stop on the Maine Turnpike. Troopers say they stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction on Tuesday in Kennebunk on I-95. Police say they found 114 grams of cocaine base and 10 grams of a suspected heroin/fentanyl mixture hidden in the vehicle. (Maine State Police)

ORONO (BDN) -- An Orono man was arrested Monday after state troopers found him in possession of $30,000 worth of marijuana, authorities said. Terrel Walker, 28, originally of New York, was charged with unlawful trafficking of marijuana and violating his bail, according to Katy England, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Walker was traveling south on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham when troopers pulled him over, England said.

AUGUSTA (WGME) -- Maine State Police have identified the two people dead after a murder-suicide in Augusta. Police say 30-year-old Loryn McCollett was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, 30-year-old Eric Ryan. Ryan shot and killed himself as Augusta Police Officers knocked on the couple's apartment door. Police say McCollett's body was found in her bed, and Ryan's body was found in a bathroom with a handgun nearby. Autopsies on the bodies are taking place Tuesday.

We keep saying how awful this is and we need to do more to fix it but this is the 2nd time in 30 days Maine has buried a woman killed by her boyfriend. Why don't we care?

BANGOR (BDN) -- On a cold Friday afternoon, Thomas Brouillette leaned against the brick wall of the pumping station next to Damon’s Beverage and Redemption on Washington Street as a red shopping cart full of his belongings shielded him from the first snow of the year. About 1 p. m. , Bangor police Sgt. Wade Betters and the city’s outreach worker, Torelin Jager, pulled up in an unmarked police cruiser to talk to Brouillette and the two men with him.
