To think of this book as any kind of scholarly exercise is a category mistake. The purpose of Pinker’s laborious work is to reassure liberals that they are on “the right side of history”.

Resentful review by theist John Gray. WE DON'T NEED GOD FOR MORALS.

The newspaper of record, in a dizzyingly short space of time, has fundamentally changed how it operates. And it is hard to trust a paper engaged in trying to deceive its readers in order for its radical staffers to transform the world.

This is why I ended my decade-long subscription to the NYTimes last month. It's not just the 1619 project. It's the entire editorial thrust of the newspaper is clogged up with this illiberal crybaby neo-Marxism. If the Times had this as one view among many I could cope, but it's by far the dominant one. And as far as I'm concerned it's inhuman and inflames the racial imagination in all the worst ways. The white supremacists couldn't have a better foil to capitalize upon.

When asked about the legacy of slavery, Joe Biden lectured black people on their parenting abilities.

Joe sounds confused about many things. But wasn't he just doing a classic "pivot" from what was asked to what he wanted to talk about? It's not raaaacist. Settle down.

White progressive educators and parents, I know lots of you. And I know you think diversity in schools is important. But you all are pushing

You critical race theory people are so full of yourselves, and have so little reason to be that way. We were supposed to keep caring less and less about race. Along come you parasites who want to exaggerate and aggravate our few remaining differences, so that you can feed on the wound while pretending to explain and mediate. Dave Chappelle by himself does more in his comedy to address our racial problems than all the "think-pieces" meant to shame white parents ever will.

I think black and brown students will start performing better when their sub-cultures start producing many more tiger moms and dads who stick around, and when it's considered Black to Study math, science, Shakespeare, etc etc etc

I would wager a lot of money that Sam Harris has never read Love’s Labour’s Lost or seen it performed. But if he had, he would recall Holofernes: the loquacious and self-important…

This is absolute bullshit: "How can you hope not to create the impression that you have a “special interest” in a subject that you spend dozens of hours debating before an audience of millions of people?" Harris has not spent dozens of hours debating race and IQ. It was a substantial portion of the Charles Murray and Ezra Klein podcasts, but by no means everything that was discussed in either one. And it was briefly mentioned in the Diamond interview. Other than that, it's barely been mentioned except for Harris to disavow any intense interest.

...And what's interesting to me about it is how furious it makes otherwise rational people to hear it discussed. I think Diamond is correct that IQ disparities across race are probably well explained by culture (see, e.g., Dickens and Flynn, 2006). If you throw a spazz every time someone brings it up, you're playing straight into the hands of the Stefan Molyneux's and Richard Spencer's. Stop it.

I’ve never been one to judge somebody’s arguments by their scholarly credentials. After all, two major contributors to my own field of evolutionary genetics, Gregor Mendel and Charles Darwin, were amateur naturalists and autodidacts trained more thoroughly in theology than in biology. So when well-known Yale professor and computer scientist David Gelernter rejected Darwinian evolution in his recent essay, ‘Giving Up Darwin,’ we can’t dismiss him simply because he’s not a biologist. Nor can we ignore his arguments because the piece appeared in a conservative journal, the Claremont Review of Books. No, we must attack his arguments head on, especially because they’ve been widely parroted by the media, as well as by conservative, religious, and intelligent-design (ID) websites. Sadly, his arguments are neither new nor correct. Gelernter’s claim—that evolution as envisioned by Darwin (and expanded into “neo-Darwinism” since the 1930s) cannot explain features of organisms and of the fossil record—depends heavily on the arguments of ID creationists. And every one of those arguments has been soundly rebutted over the past few decades. While Gelernter doesn’t fully …

Thank you, Dr. Coyne, for debunking this nonsense.
