These people need to get hardcore red-pilled on basic economics, "what is seen and what is unseen", and the history of their country by a classical liberal. The government needs to be seriously shrunk down from employees, to policy, to taxes, to maximize the standard of living; and the book Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell will attest to that. This country needs a logic-driven, small government movement, unlike the pro-open borders view of the Libertarian party or the two major parasite political parties, this country needs to return to the best ideas of its roots. Most shooters are fatherless males, it is a complex social problem dealing with fatherlessness and its statistics, mental illness, technological change, changing values, hook-up culture, and the single motherhood epidemic. Political correctness and the minority of people controlling social media and mainstream media, and who gets heard, instead of merit controlling who gets heard, needs to come to an end, because it creates ignorance and suffering, and is the reason the future is farther away. The individual is and will always be the greatest minority, there is no greater diversity than free individuals. To be true to itself, America needs less weapon restrictions, not more; sick individuals use whatever is available to them to hurt other people, they do not care about laws. The American government has become increasingly detached from the mentality of America's founders and the result is increasing totalitarianism.

Humans manage existential terror by embracing cultural worldviews that afford a sense of meaning and value, and hope of immortality. Efforts to transcend dea...

This is an incredible and courageous talk. Though it is one not everyone has the emotional strength to hear and entertain as a possibility, and that's okay. I think the weakness of terror management theory lies in a lack of acknowledgement of consciousness without symbolism, which underlies symbolism, and as Alan Watts has said, is the beginning of meditation.

In TMT, all human symbolism which I believe includes all culture, can be seen as avoidance of death awareness and the resulting terror, but consciousness without symbolism can be argued to be non-dual, where life and death, the feelings of meaning and meaninglessness are paradoxically the same non-symbolic thing; Advaita Vedanta would call this thing consciousness, and say that unconsciousness and death is still a form of supreme or primordial consciousness, though this does not argue for any sort of afterlife. Neuroscience suggests the probability that our entire memories, thoughts, beliefs, and personality or identity are based on the physical structure of the brain, and that there is no soul or afterlife, but as terrifying or sad as it can seem, that death is state that is entirely similar to dreamless sleep. But there is also some mysterious psychological tendency in humans and all animals to pretend the death is not real, and I think that could be a reflection of something in the universe in us, like for example the idea that energy cannot be destroyed.

There is also a question to me that goes along with the idea of time travel, that the universe may act like a hard drive, where we could be immortal in the sense that every moment of time is stored like a three-dimensional picture-- but what of our individuality or "soul" is saved or lost in having some godlike power to restore a previous three-dimensional cosmic picture, or point in time, or something within that picture, is another philosophical question-- like the grim thought of whether the characters in Star Trek are being killed and copied or not when they are using a transporter.

I think the most rational way for human beings to approach the terror of being aware of finite existence must include thoughtless, or non-symbolic, or non-linguistic consciousness, because symbolic consciousness alone in seeing or analyzing death appears to produce terror or inevitable destruction in some form; its as if we have to use the energy of death awareness to kill off symbolism or that energy is destructively expressed through our symbolism which informs our actions. But the sum-total of existence is a mystery and paradox, not just death, and that leads into the question of what is visible in existence or the universe that reflects its deeper nature or construction or primordial essence, and the question of what reflects the primordial essence more out of any concept or form, or if it is that everything that is visible to us somehow does equally. It seems that the root cause of existential death terror is some form of certainty, and a lack of sense of mystery in all of life and existence, and like other negative feelings which science tells us inform us that we are doing something wrong, could be a way of the universe telling us that we do not have it all figured out.

There is the question of whether mystery, "awe" as this TED Talk states being the opposite of existential terror, or wonder, is more non-symbolic than terror in being less certain, which would then make it closer to death in that regard. I dislike the term awe because it can imply fear, but whatever you want to call it, in the battle between these two emotions the positive one is certainly preferable, but so is the truth and benefits of knowing it. My stance at present is that birth, life, and death are all wrapped up in mystery, and to deny that the sum-total of existence is a mystery is the cause of existential death terror.
