Among the weathered and once-cracked headstones in Michigan’s historic Brighton Village Cemetery, the dual grave markers for Lt. Col. John Gilluly stand out. It was a late summer day when I was drawn to Gilluly’s resting place by one of the intricate Victorian silhouettes displayed throughout the city of Brighton that depict its 19th century
