The Connecticut Democrats are pushing legislation with the Orwellian name “An Act Concerning The Provision Of Equivalent Instruction” (HB 5468) that will require families who wish to withdraw from the public schools for home schooling to receive approval from the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The ostensible impetus for this legislation is the death of Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-García, an 11-year girl who was withdrawn from the Farmington Public Schools to be home schooled. Her body was discovered later in plastic container.
