<body><p>STORY: :: Air quality in New Delhi deteriorates to hazardous levels, partly due to the use of firecrackers during Diwali</p><p>:: New Delhi, India</p><p>:: October 22, 2025</p><p>:: The Indian capital was the world's most polluted major city on Tuesday, according to Swiss group IQAir</p><p>Several areas registered readings of at least 300 on the air quality index (AQI), with one area in the eastern part of the city exceeding 500, IQAir's website showed.</p><p>The Supreme Court of India last week relaxed a ban on firecrackers in the city, permitting the use of so-called "green crackers" for a maximum three hours each on Sunday and Monday, although Reuters witnesses saw crackers being set-off outside the allotted times.</p><p>Delhi is unlikely to get relief in the coming days, with the earth sciences ministry forecasting air quality will remain in the "Very Poor to Poor" category with AQI levels between 201 and 400.</p></body>
