There are concerns British Steel could run out of raw materials within days, raising fears over whether blast furnaces can keep running. The business, owned by Chinese company Jingye, has announced plans to shut Britain’s remaining two blast furnaces in Scunthorpe. There have been calls for temporary nationalisation of British Steel amid fears of thousands of job losses.
