A scammer trying to score a free meal was caught on camera at a restaurant in Livingston, Tennessee, on Friday, March 14, but avoided retribution from manager when he proposed to his accomplice after dinner. This video, taken from security cameras at The Steel Coop restaurant, shows two customers sitting at a booth beside the window with plates of food in front of them, including a house speciality: a rack of ribs. The reflection in the window then shows the woman’s hand reaching to the back of her head. Later, the man seated across from her reaches over and takes something from her hand. The footage then reveals the man sorting through strands of hair, dropping some to the floor before placing some on his plate. The man then calls over the waitress and shows her the hair on his plate.Patrick Jones, manager of The Steel Coop, told Storyful that he apologized to the man and gave the couple the food for free.Jones told Storyful: “After having comped the meal and apologizing I reviewed the video and discovered the scam. I then attempted to catch them and tell them what I had found. When I did catch them he was getting down on one knee to propose to her.”In an interview with Inside Edition, the owner of the restaurant, Cindy Cooper, said, “I was caught off guard that someone would stoop this low to get a free meal from us.”“What is really comical after he plants the hair he continues to eat out the plate, it was that good, he needed another bite.” Credit: Patrick Jones via Storyful
