STORY: :: Water levels drop to a historic low in Poland's Vistula River:: September 8, 2024:: Warsaw, Poland:: Grzegorz Walijewsk, Poland's Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology"Until now, the lowest water level in Warsaw was 10.2 inches. That was recorded during the drought in 2015. Now it is 9.8 inches, so it is a record, the water level has never been observed so low. But what is more, the forecasts for the coming days are not very optimistic. Here, hydrological models indicate that this water level will continue to decrease."The Vistula is Poland's longest river, rising in the mountains close to the Czech border and flowing for more than 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) to the Baltic sea.The river is a popular place to spend time in Warsaw, and is lined with bars on boats moored to the river banks as well as stretches of rocky beach.
