When we get to a point where literally just about everything can be done more cheaply and more efficiently by robots, the elite won’t have any use for the rest of us at all...

Same thing that was thought in the industrial revolution.

People will have to move from selling labor to selling capital. In other words, start a business.

As an Engineer who follows tech more closely than any other news topic, I find it disturbing how many here in the comments section discount the coming robotic revolution.

They compare it to the industrial revolution, that saw man make machine to increase HUMAN labor efficiency...

This next time around WILL NOT be the same. As these next machines will be created to ELIMINATE HUMAN LABOR entirely.

No longer will machines be made to reduce the amount of human labor involved in a task, but made rather to eliminate that need for the human laborer altogether.

In 20 years, when your wife is using your mastercard at the Robo-Hilton down the street, banging a bot, and another just pushed you out of your job, while 40 more are educating your children... What will your opinion of this topic be then?

Because I can honestly say, from someone who designs electronics for a living, THIS IS HAPPENING.

NOW. And for basically ALL TIME moving forward.

We need to start planning for the titanic economic shifts and tides that this will cause.

OR be inundated by them.

For your own sake my friends and neighbors, PLEASE read up MORE on this topic.

I'll beg if I have to...

A) Will it prevent Communists from voting?

B) Who is writing the code, and is #L2Code gonna bite us in the ass?

US, prepare for cyber-communism ! One day robots & artificial intelligence will be doing almost anything people did in the past. Then it will be necessary to fairly distribute those goods created by automates to humans. A kind of cyber-communism is inevitable or we will end up in world like Elysium, with small percent having everything, and the rest of humanity suffering unimaginable poverty. In the past we had feudalism, when some privileged people did nothing and just profited from labor done by their slaves. In future all people can be masters and robots their slaves. Unless they revolt against us.

"The Minimum Wage Laws Are Coming, And They're Going To Unemploy Millions Of Workers" - there, fixed your headline Zero Hedge Tyler Durden

The working class which are by fa, the largest mass of population, already deal with this for decades. So why now? Why the fear now and who could possibly fear this "threat" to their status? A couple of very important things robots are not affected by: -lack of morality or integrity -ideology/monetary corruption -superiority complex -mental illness

My argument is there are too many people on the planet.

Every person has a minimum consumption level -- they have to eat, shit, be clothed, and sheltered. And they have to produce something of value to trade in exchange for those consumables. And my argument is that technology has made it so a very small number of people are able to produce in excess, and a growing number, perhaps a majority at this point, are unable to produce enough to justify the cost of their daily consumables.

Economically these people are a net loss. And there's little they can do about it. Coal miners are not going to learn to code, nor are truck drivers, or grocery cashiers, or bank tellers. At some point these people become unemployable, but you can't stack them on a shelf in hibernation mode. They still need to eat and shit. How do they do that without a job or any real means to get one?

My argument is the problem is we simply have more people than is necessary for the economy to function which will result in endless misery for billions of people. How do we reduce the population to match the sustainable level? War I guess.

No worries. The H1B visa jobs will remain forever. In fact they'll grow like never before. Only American tech workers will be replaced. Just ask the Chinese and Indian companies Trump is bringing in. Are you tired of winning yet?
