Colt hasn't turn a profit on their line of AR-15s for quite a while.
It has nothing to do with the politics like other anti-gunners and O'Rourke are claiming. It has to do with the fact that their rifles (such as the Colt 6920) are not selling as much as other cheaper, even better, rifles in a heavily saturated market.
I checked on gunbroker.com recently and found a brand new Colt M4 LE6920 (semi-auto of course) for a starting bid of $1200.
There are far cheaper options and most rifles are better made than whatever Colt is selling.
I stated in an earlier post that this is really bad timing as the anti-gunners are jumping for joy on this.
But what can Colt do for the civilian market? Make another rifle but cheaper and hope customers can buy enough to stay in business?
Why should I buy an expensive rifle when there are cheaper, better options from companies like Ruger, Palmetto State Armory, and many others. Heck! Building one yourself is even cheaper!

Stanford Law professor with expertise in gun policy doesn't even know the difference between a semi auto and an "Assault" rifle.
Tim, you speak of "updating the constitution for digital". To anyone with an IQ greater than their shoe size, and ANY common sense whatsoever, that's not necessary.
Free speech is free speech is free speech - whether spoken, written, or typed.
Things like searching your cell phone.
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
"...papers, and effects..." would cover cell phones, computers, tablets, and removable media.
It's not a matter of needing to be updated; it's a matter of FOLLOWING the constitution as it was written and intended.
Colt does not lead the AR market. There are better and less expensive alternatives. I'd rather see them focus on the 1911 line.
Get a fucking GUN Tim!
LOL. That won't last long.
But... Thank You Colt for making my M4's and M15's EXTREMELY valuable. I'll add some DPMS for redundancy... = $$$ for everyone else.
Timmy get your gun
Colt already wrecked themselves, and nice job letting all the deranged fucks who watch you know, you're unarmed!...

Colt made overpriced shit in terms of ARs. If you're going to pay too much for an AR, actually get a good AR like a Daniel Defense.
There is definitely no shortage of Manufacturers. Colt probably just using an excuse to lay people off.
