Xi is actually in a very precarious spot. He established himself as a de facto Emperor of China instead of following the original Polish Commonwealth type inner party elective system that Deng Xiaoping went for. He has made so many enemies in the process that he cannot actually take a step back and negotiate a deal, as it would show weakness and give everyone within the party a reason to remove him from power. And unlike Kim Jong Un, Xi does not have total control over his subjects, and therefore cannot manipulate reality the same way Kim did when he took a step back and did diplomacy with Trump.

Trump doesn't need a book deal after his Presidency. He will go on being rich. I think he will do whatever he pleases. I'm not so sure he even wants a second term, so he is just goin' solo these days.

Freedom vs security. A true blood American is willing to take a hit if it means they're better off in the long run. I imagine Trump knows bluffs only work if the other side thinks you're not bluffing. That also means occasionally doing things you hoped you wouldn't have to do, because if they catch you bluffing they'll push you much further backwards than where you started. China has been unchecked in shitting on the world for a while now. That needs to change. Push the little red button, sir.

You see my friend its only good when they are in power otherwise its an evil bad thing.

The IEEPA order is likely a strategy for post 2020 election.

Interesting that Styx says this will bring immediate recession, but there are "experts" who say this is going to mainly effect those who deal with China. If you deal with India, do you think you're going to have a bad time? If you're part of the American working class (which you're obviously not), is forcing corporations to built manufacturing in the US a terrible thing? Think about all of the regulations that will HAVE to be changed just so the big dogs will be able to do business in the US again. Even though they might lose access to cheap Chinese parts it will keep the kids from valuating their new "trashcan controlled by an app" companies at 20 billion dollars.
