"Misinformation" is wartime language. It's not a word that is used in an open, free society. The Soviets used it in accusations against the West and we used it rightly against the Soviets. But despite the political divide, with the exception of card-carrying ACP members, Americans never used it against each other broadly until it became mainstream terminology of the left in 2016. It reveals an irreconcilable mindset. Before then, Americans would refer to narratives they disagreed with as simply biased or misinformed - the tone of open, healthy vigorous democratic disagreement. The tone is now one of warfare.
