  1. The Bible itself undermines this argument. If you read the Bible, it tells you to do more than just read the Bible. Christ gave us salvation, not a book.
  1. But be doers of the word, & not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.- James 1:22

Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, "You have faith & I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, & I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe. - James 2:17-19

  1. No Christian argues this. Salvation comes from God alone, not our own works. But that doesn't mean we are to do nothing, having been given such a gift. While we are freed from the yoke of the works of the Law under Moses (Galatians 3; Ephesians 2:15), this does not mean God's grace doesn't work through us in our Christian good work. "You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works." -James 2:22.
  1. Of course Christ is central to Christianity (it's right there in the name), but let's remember that God is the Holy Trinity. Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:22.

As far as priests go, do not Protestants have someone standing at the altar, leading the service and giving the communion? Yet no one decries him as an intercessor. The minister / preacher / priest doesn't diminish Jesus Christ's status as HIGH priest.

  1. I agree entirely. My only issue with "solo..." doctrines is they tear down the pillars of tradition until the roof collapses. Many of these traditions do have a higher spiritual purpose, not meant to be performed robotically but reverently for the glory of God. By focusing so much on what we DON'T have to do for salvation, the spiritual heart has been cut out of so many churches & out of our society. Christianity is rotting from the inside. The reformers took action against real corruptions inside the Catholic church, but their reactionary stance has ultimately reduced Christianity to a mere ideology. And again, even the demons believe, and shudder.
