The AI will have the biases and prejudices of those who program it.

Even with AI judges, negroes will STILL be over-represented in jail. Their criminality is precocial; it's in their DNA.

The whole legal system loves Justice Robot, a lovely robot that passes sentences with NO human bias!

We regret to inform you the robot is racist.

If Left Wing Silicon Valley Big Tech Firms are the one programming the AI judges then expect the kind of unconstitutional judicial activism we are seeing from Obama appointees in places like New York and California. Let's hope the gridlock remains bad enough in Washington that no one ever has the votes needed to appoint AI judges. What exactly constitutes a lifetime appointment for an AI? Would Judge AI be required to have a defined life cycle to temporally decide when they need to be replaced? What about software upgrades and patches? When does the code change significantly enough so that one version is considered a different entity than another? There are too many difficult questions with respect to AI judges that I don't think people have thought through all the challenges, legal and ethical considerations in implementing AI judges.

And then Skynet will become self-aware and punish all humans...

How long before it says Hitler was right and starts the War AI and rounds up all miscreants.

In principle, I'm all for this. The problem of course will be the manipulation of the algorithms. Just as today, Google feels the need to manipulate unbiased search results, so will the makers of 'justice' AI be forced by the government to manipulate theirs when the results aren't 'just' according to the standards of 'social justice' of some administration or other.

Only intelligent rational lines in this article:

[Former Prime Minister Theresa May, in an address last year to the Davos Forum, pointed out that we need to develop a set of laws governing Artificial Intelligence so we can “make the most of AI in a responsible way, such as by ensuring that algorithms don’t perpetuate the human biases of their developers.”

After all, as Ms Warren points out: “AI, computers and legal robots are made by humans. “Technology, like humans, can make mistakes and hold the same discriminatory factors.]

Will it overturn unconstitutional gun laws, or will it be programmed to identify red flagged individuals? It must not uphold illegal laws but it will and it will require updates as shit regresses further.
