The planet has appeared as a tiny dot, about 0.5 per cent the diameter of the Sun, from 11:35 GMT. Photographers in Washington DC, Kuwait and France have captured the phenomenon.

The important detail that this article hasn't included is that there have been NO SUNSPOTS for at least 224 days. The energy output from the Sun is less when there are no sunspots. Less energy from the Sun, means less energy reaches Earth.
