With even Lake Mead at lowest level, ground water supplies exhausted, the entire West's water supply is finite and diminishing year after year. Coastal desalination plants have to be considered. Lengthy pipelines to the Mississippi, and other large rivers would be extremely expensive and environmentally damaging. The salt could be processed and exported for profit, and not returned to the sea, leaving desalination a very viable option.
