These residency laws are outdated, enacted when travel was on horseback and you didn't have to live very far for it to take days to get to the capital. Indiana has the same sort of law but governors have not generally liked the Governor's "Mansion," and no one wants to live in Indianapolis, so they tend to go the the safer, cleaner Republican suburbs. These laws should be changed to require the governor to live within an hour of the capital city.
