Once upon a time the USA had family farms, small metal shops & blacksmiths, mom & pop shops, family-owned diners & restaurants, & independent truckers (to name a few).
But that intricate patchwork quilt was too complex & organic to allow for efficient regulation, mass-production, economies of scale, & 24 hour assemble-line labor. The very backbone of the "military industrial complex".
