Perhaps the townsfolk had a bit too much gin that day, bleary-eyed saw the hairy misfortunate as one of those hated Frenchies washed up on their shore, arrived just in time to placate their anger, and strung up the poor thing. Perversely seeing the humor they even named their soccer team mascot “H’angus the Monkey.”
