HiEv is discussing:

A controversial 2014 study used survey data to demonstrate that 38 people might have voted as non-citizens in 2008, and web sites subsequently did a lot of extrapolating.

Oh look, some random Joe Shmoe thinks he knows more about statistics than the actual statisticians quoted here who poked holes in this study.

The problem isn't that "Multiplication is pretty difficult", it's that multiplication of bad data will overexaggerate that flawed data, which is all that this column says.

No surprise that you, a person who has no qualifications in the field, didn't look at the research, and who has a clear bias, wouldn't understand that point, even when it was spelled out for you that clearly.

Oh, and congratulations, I hear that Snopes just hired you. ;-)
