The financial sector is certainly not 'sleepwalking' into anything. They made out like gangbusters from the last financial crisis while the rest of the population picked up the bill. Bankers never stopped taking multi-million pound bonuses and none had to face the consequences of their actions so they don't see any reason to change their ways while they can keep on with privatised profits and nationalised losses.
