Japan has an interesting way of redistributing taxes from wealthy areas to poorer ones. You can choose to have a certain amount redirected to an area of your choice, and for the specific cause that you believe in (education, care for the elderly, infrastructure, etc.) In return, you get a gift of your choice. So you can choose to have 10% of your taxes go to a poor fishing village that has some expensive exotic fish as the free gift. You get the gift, the town gets the money, you get to choose which cause to support.
